Step 1: If your Direct screen is not open, click or tap “Instagram Direct,” which has the paper airplane icon.
You will also receive new messages here. A red circle will show the number of messages from other users that you have not read. If you want to read a new message, just tap it.
Step 2: Click or tap the “pencil in a square” icon. Then, the New Message screen will appear.
Step 3: You can enter the username you are targeting in the Search box. Alternatively, you can scroll through the Instagram Suggestions list to find the recipient’s name. Next, you’ll need to click or tap on their username.
You’ll see a blue check mark next to each user if you select that person. You can also select one or more users at a time.
